Go Barefoot (Almost)
“You’re crazy!” is the typical response we get when we tell people we’re not bringing our boots to Peru. We’re heading to the Andes and the Amazon basin for about a month long expedition and we’re officially leaving our heavyweight boots at home in favor of Vibram Five Fingers(VFF).
I’ve had my VFF for almost a year now. Have you seen these things?? They are prob the ugliest shoe on the planet but I love them! They give you traction and protection so you can run around ‘barefoot’, the natural way your foot is meant to be used. I never knew what I’ve been missing out on all those years of running! We’re hiking every day to prep for our trek and I’ve been loving every bit of it. Stream crossings, dirt, grass, rocks, mud… we’ve been putting them through the ringer. You know it’s good when you get back from a run and want to turn around and go right back out again.
Not sure if it’s just the ugly or the popularity, but they are definitely attention getters. We get lots of funny looks and people stop, point, and say, “Look! It’s those shoes!” It wasn’t love at first step since they take time to get used to, but now I can’t imagine being on a trail without them.
Go barefoot! Well, almost.

ok, a few things here… 1.) i totally looked those shoes up and now I think I need a pair too… for kayaking and nature trails here on the islands. 2.) a whole month in the jungle?? thats even crazier than the looks of those shoes. Do you camp out every night?? UH! looks like a blast, can’t wait to see more pics
